Trounstine to Speak on Race and Regulation in University of Pennsylvania Lecture Series

October 20, 2021

Department of Political Science Chair and Professor Jessica Trounstine will deliver remarks on race and regulation as part of a lecture series hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Trounstine will speak about her research on racial inequalities related to housing and land use regulation.

The lecture, titled "Redlined Forever: The Racist Past of Today's Land Use Regulations," is taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 2-3 p.m. Trounstine will discuss how land use regulations have generated segregation along race and class lines, enhancing the wealth of white property owners at the expense of people of color and the poor.

The talk is part of a list of lectures on a variety of issues, including voting rights laws and the family regulation system. The goal of the series is to help educate and empower people to be agents of change.

The free lecture will be held on Zoom and is open to the public. Those interested in watching are asked to register online. Questions regarding the series can be directed to regulation@law.upenn.edu.
